Cheap, DIY Flooring for Living Room?

My family and I are wanting to get rid of our ugly green carpet in our living room which is about 500 sq ft. Does anybody have any suggestions on Do-It-Yourself flooring that wouldn't cost very much money? We're working on an extremely low budget.
